“Change does not take place through a coercive attempt by the individual or by another person to change him, but it does take place if one takes the time and effort to be what he is”
- Arnold Beisser
My Approach
You are the expert of your experiences. I hold therapy as a space to support you in exploring your experiences rather than interpreting their meaning. Together we can build awareness of what you are feeling, notice patterns, explore their origins, and attend to all parts of you with curiosity and compassion.
Early life experiences shape how we see ourselves and the world. Attachment and parts work can offer ways of understanding thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, identifying patterns that no longer serve you, and letting them go with appreciation for the ways that those parts have done their best to protect you.
Context matters. I believe that to authentically engage with ourselves in relationship to others we must face the impact of social context and our own intersecting identities. It is my intention to make space for lived experience to be named and explored, in the context of the therapeutic relationship and beyond.
Knowledge comes in many forms. There are many kinds of knowing, and I honor them all. I welcome linguistic, logical, visual, somatic, auditory, emotional, intuitive, naturalistic, spiritual, ancestral, and transpersonal processes, and invite conversation about the ways you make meaning.
What to expect when we meet
Individual Therapy
Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or a continuation of your therapy journey, I want to acknowledge the time you are taking to support yourself by seeking change. I think of therapy as a commitment to making space for things that often don’t get enough space in everyday life— space settle into oneself, to take pause, to be witnessed, to be with experiences and support awareness as it emerges. I believe that awareness leads to choice, and that in therapy we can co-create a space to explore your experiences, building greater awareness of needs, boundaries, and patterns of experience.
Perhaps you are seeking therapy to address a specific issue, or maybe you want to explore ways to live more authentically in alignment with your dreams and values. Wherever you happen to be, therapy is a dynamic process that can support you in learning more about yourself. I believe that a good fit is essential to good therapy, and I offer a free 15-minute consultation to potential clients before scheduling a first therapy session.
